The Presbyterian Regional Mental Health Center (PRMC) in Bolgatanga was established in October, 2021 to offer quality and affordable specialized psychiatric services to the people of the upper east region and its neighboring regions (North East, Upper West and parts of Northern regions). The establishment of the center has therefore improved access to services and has eliminated the cost associated with traveling to tamale to seek mental health care at the Tamale teaching hospital which was the nearest for all patients in northern Ghana.
The center is a 24-hour clinical service center and currently has a specialist psychiatrist with 4 other clinical and community psychiatry Officers supporting the specialist for the best clinical outcomes. Other nurses have also available to support in the delivery of other health needs of patients.

Services Offered
- Psychiatric inpatient care
The region currently lacks a specialist psychiatry center and this center therefore is the very first of its kind.
We admit patients who require inpatient care. These patients are admitted under very serene conditions where professionals attend to these patients. Stay in our facility is for a max of 4 weeks since we run only a short stay facility.
- Psychiatric OPD care
Stable patients who require only Specialist consultation can walk in, discuss their challenges under very confidential conditions. Get the treatment you require and always come for reviews
The unique case about our service is that, it is situated within a general Clinics environment hence the stigma of the traditional institutions is long gone.
- Forensic Psychiatric care
Until now, mentally ill patients who come into contact with the law for whatever reasons have to travel to Tamale for assessment. This causes so much burden to the patient, the relatives and the courts. We provide Forensic services right here in Bolgatanga. Just walk in and you will not regret it.
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health care
Children are not left out, most mental illnesses begin in the childhood hence early intervention is very important.
Children can now get to be assessed and treated by a professional right here in Bolgatanga.
- Liaison Psychiatric
We also liaise with other medical officers in the regions whose patients with medical condition who end up manifesting mental health symptoms for total management.
